PROVIDER REFERRAL GUIDE
What do we provide?
The Managed Mind (MM) provides Applied Meditation Technology (AMT)—a structured approach that combines meditation with personalized scripting to help individuals change the thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviors associated with stress, adversity, life changes, and personal or professional challenges.
Rather than making meditation the goal, MM uses the meditative state as the environment in which new responses are rehearsed and reinforced. Applied Meditation Scripts incorporate a desired outcome, affirmations, specific actions, reflection on relevant experiences, and visualization of successful implementation.
Services include individual Applied Meditation Scripting and Coaching, educational workshops, group programs, and programs developed for organizations and specific populations.
Who is it appropriate for?
AMT is appropriate for adults who can benefit from developing a more deliberate and constructive response to stress, change, adversity, or the implementation of positive lifestyle behaviors.
It can be particularly useful when a provider has already advised a patient about what they need to do, but the patient is having difficulty consistently translating that recommendation into behavior. In this capacity, MM can serve as an implementation resource rather than another source of health advice.
AMT is not psychotherapy or medical treatment and is not intended to replace care from a licensed healthcare or mental-health professional.
What kinds of people do you work with?
Since 2012, MM has worked with a broad range of adults, including physicians, nurses, social workers, educators, academic and social-science professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and members of the general public.
The common denominator is not a particular diagnosis. It is a desire or need to develop greater calm, clarity, self-regulation, and constructive action when faced with pressure, change, or adversity.
How does the referral process work?
The referral process is intentionally simple.
A physician or other provider identifies a patient who may benefit from learning Applied Meditation and provides the patient with information about The Managed Mind. The patient then contacts MM or uses the provided registration information to schedule an introductory session or program.
MM explains the program, determines whether the service is appropriate, obtains the necessary consent, and works directly with the participant.
Where appropriate, MM can also provide the referring practice with standardized patient information, brochures, QR-code registration materials, email or text language, and follow-up/outcome materials.
Can you work with patients at their office?
Yes. Programs can be arranged at a physician's or provider's office when there is sufficient patient participation and appropriate space.
This can be particularly useful for an introductory patient workshop in which the physician introduces meditation as a recommended supportive practice and MM provides the education, instruction, and experiential component.
Office-based programs can be structured as educational workshops or small-group Applied Meditation sessions rather than requiring the practice to establish an ongoing meditation program of its own.
Do you work virtually?
Yes. MM provides virtual services through Zoom, including individual sessions, workshops, and group Applied Meditation programs.
Virtual delivery also makes it possible for a provider to refer a patient without adding appointments, staffing requirements, or programming to the medical practice itself.
What does the provider have to do?
Very little.
The provider identifies an appropriate patient, recommends the program, and gives the patient MM's referral or registration information. MM handles program explanation,
For a provider-facing packet, it would be preferable to name specific organizations only when MM has permission to identify them publicly. Professional categories and years of experience can establish credibility without implying organizational endorsement.
